The Role 
The IT Systems Support Engineer Provides Tier 2 application development, systems engineering, and advanced help desk support for DHA Dental and medical imaging environments. Supports the design, development, enhancement, security hardening, testing, deployment, and sustainment of mission-critical applications, systems, databases, and interfaces operating within DoD-compliant healthcare environments.

How You Make an Impact
Serving as a Tier 2 technical escalation resource, the engineer supports applications, infrastructure, imaging systems, end users, and cybersecurity coordination to ensure operational continuity, compliance, and mission success across DHA Dental programs.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, enhance, and maintain custom and COTS applications supporting DHA Dental clinical, imaging, and operational workflows.
  • Develop and maintain web-based and desktop applications using technologies such as C#, ASP.NET, MVC/MVVM, Java, JavaScript, SQL, PL/SQL, and PowerShell.
  • Support integration across dental imaging systems (PACS/DICOM), clinical applications, databases, and enterprise services; participate in system design reviews, testing, and release activities.
  • Provide Tier 2 application, system, and end-user support, troubleshooting software defects, system failures, performance issues, and data integrity problems; escalate to Tier 3/4 support as required.
  • Install, configure, operate, and maintain dental imaging systems, including Apteryx or MiPACS Viewer, associated plugins and drivers; build and maintain servers and workstations in accordance with IMS-Dental standards.
  • Perform system monitoring, log review, and incident response in alignment with SLAs, maintain accurate ticketing and knowledge base documentation.
  • Support database design, including design, optimization, tuning, monitoring, reporting, and maintenance of stored procedures and data integrity for Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle database environments.
  • Implement and maintain the cybersecurity posture of deployed systems, including STIG implementation, vulnerability remediation, security hardening, routine scanning, and patching, in accordance with DoD, DHA, NIST, and HIPAA requirements; maintain artifacts for ATO sustainment.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, test plans, and system artifacts required for Authority to Operate (ATO) sustainment.
  • Implement and support automated testing and validation of enhancements and bug fixes using tools such as Selenium, SpecFlow, Cucumber, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Collaborate with systems engineers, cybersecurity teams, vendors, and clinical stakeholders under the direction of the IMS-Dental Information Security Director and DHA/AFNET ISSOs, as part of an integrated team supporting the ICS Dental Program.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field 
  • 5+ years of experience in roles that require strong IT, Development or IT Systems Administrator skills
  • Windows Server and Workstation Environments
  • Dental and Clinical Imaging Systems (PACS and DICOM viewers/archives)
  • Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and MySQL databases (Desired)
  • SQL-backed clinical and operational applications
  • C#, ASP.NET, MVC/MVVM, Java, JavaScript, PowerShell, SQL, PL/SQL
  • Automated testing and CI/CD pipelines (Selenium, SpecFlow, Cucumber)
  • Active Directory, Group Policy, and enterprise identity management
  • ServiceNow or similar IT Service Management (ITSM) tools
  • DoD STIGs, NIST, DHA, and HIPAA compliance frameworks
  • Secure DoD healthcare network environments
  • Security+ certification required 
  • Active Secret security clearance 
  • Must be a US Citizen
Preferred Skills
  • 2D and 3D dental imaging applications and modalities, (MiPACS, Dolphin Imaging, PlanMeca, Carestream). 
Work Location
Local to Ft. Detrick, MD or San Antonio TX area

Salary
Dependent on Experience (DOE). Compensation will be based on qualifications, relevant experience, and internal equity.
