You Are

The Senior Telecommunications Engineer / Technical Advisor serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) supporting the Chief Technology Officer (CTO). This position provides senior-level technical and advisory oversight for the design, testing, integration, and sustainment of telecommunications networks and systems across a large enterprise environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and participate in the design, testing, upgrade and integration of new or existing telecommunication networks, systems and equipment in accordance with the organization’s business requirements.
  • Plan and lead major technology assignments. Functions as a technical expert across multiple project assignments.
  • Work with other senior technical and user staff to complete projects.
  • Document all aspects of the engineering process as it relates to build and configuration, testing, and deployment of telecommunication networks, systems, and equipment.
  • Coordinate changes such as implementation of new telecommunication networks, systems and equipment, upgrades, or version increments to existing telecommunication networks, systems, and equipment with stakeholders.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement security measures to safeguard telecommunication networks, systems, and equipment.
  • Perform telecommunications modeling, analysis, and planning. Coordinates with architecture and evaluate new and emerging telecommunication technologies and make recommendations for selection of these products.
  • Manage Change Control Board SharePoint site and workflow.
  • Provide a wide range of technical and planning expertise to assist senior leadership in shaping and achieving the organization's strategic vision, operational and tactical goals.

Here's What You Need

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, Information Systems, or a related field .
  • Knowledge of cabling standards, Outside/inside plant (OSP/ISP) to include Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and DHA Facilities Enterprise (DHA-FE) criteria and standards.
  • Experience with conduit verification, OSP planning, OSP technologies such as aerial and direct bury.
  • Must have knowledge of Structured Cabling, understanding of BICSI TIA/EIA 568 and specifically TIA 1179 standards.
  • Ability to read engineering diagrams for buildings and cable plant.
  • Skilled in applying systems design tools, methods, and techniques, including automated systems analysis and design tools; systems design standards, policies, and authorized approaches; and systems design precedents or alternative approaches.
  • Knowledge of system testing and evaluation principles, methods, and tools; IT security principles and methods; requirement analysis principles and methods.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to resolve issues through coordination with clients, vendors, and facilities personnel.
  • Security+ Certification.
  • Must possess and maintain one (1) of the following current certifications: COPT, CCNA, CCTT, CNCDP, or CEP.
  • Active Secret clearance required.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.


Additional Qualifications

  • Knowledge of fiber splicing.
  • Experience with construction planning and scheduling.
  • Intermediate to advanced skill with MS excel. Ability to use complex formulas to manipulate OSP/ISP data storage; solid understanding of database structure.
  • Experience with deployment and sustainment of new or existing information networks, such as local area networks (LAN),
  • Knowledge of Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN), intranets, extranets, and other communications networks.
  • Knowledge of network performance monitoring, capacity analysis, and security posture.
  • Knowledge of CAD software.
  • Project management experience, including using MS Project.
